It’s a toaster … and an oven??

For the life of me, I can’t find a decent toaster.

In the past, I’ve purchased toasters that, for some innate reason, only have two temperature settings. I can choose from lukewarm or burnt. Nothing in between.

The last toaster I owned apparently had only one setting – burnt on one side and raw on the other. Which made an order of morning wheat toast or morning toasted English muffins or morning toasted bagels a morning crapshoot.

So last week, I purchased a toaster oven. A Black & Decker model, to be precise.

I probably should have gone this route years ago. I know my Grandma Betty had a toaster oven, and my girlfriend has one (apparently she also owns a Black & Decker model).

I tested the unit yesterday. Two sliced English muffins in … two perfectly toasted English muffins came out.

Look … this might seem like the most insignificant blogging topic one can imagine … but toasting my own food and getting it right now opens up more cooking avenues for me. I don’t have to hover over a toaster and hope that the smoke coming out of it is either burning bread or burning breadcrumbs that I can’t fish out of the crumb tray.

And if I’m not toasting bread or bagels in the unit, apparently – and this is a new concept – I can use the toaster oven as a mini-oven. Baste a couple of chicken drumsticks with some sauce, pop them in at 325 degrees for an extended cooking time … and we now have a new option for bachelor cooking.

I’ll definitely have to investigate more into this.

Yeah, yeah, I know, I know. I could have invested in an air fryer or in one of those computer-generated heating ovens. But this is a blog that has a subcategory of Bachelor Cooking. You’re lucky I got this far in my life without a decent working toaster, you’re now expecting me to go full-on Ninja Foodie?
